Bertha Johnson, 49, of 4 Rock River Ridge, died Tuesday evening in Culver Hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Johnson had been employed the past two years in the engineering department of Indiana Bell Telephone Co. She was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church and served as secretary of the church council. She was a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority. Born Jan 27, 1922, in Glen Rock, N.J. she was a daughter of Henry and Matilda Brandt Engelken.  She married Max Johnson Oct 29, 1946 in Paterson, N.J. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson began housekeeping in Indianapolis and moved to Crawfordsville in 1948. She was a graduate of East Side High School in Patterson, N.J. Survivors include the husband; a son, G. Bruce Johnson, a student at the University of Cincinnati, and a daughter Judy L., a student at Indiana University. She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. John C. Stacy officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Bright and Burkhart Funeral Home after 2 p.m.Thursday. The family requests that donations be made to the Cancer Fund. - transcribed by kbz
